Actually seen this milestone!
I have reached a milestone and wanted to share it with you. The current wip/novel is at the printers being put on paper as I write this, for me to read it out loud. Once I’ve finished reading it out loud and made corrections/ changes that are deemed fit, I’ll send it to my readers and await their responses. Then, depending on how soon they get it back to me and if there are any blaring changes they remark upon, I’ll send the finished draft to CreateSpace. I am almost excited. Perhaps this means that by the end of March, the book will be in the process of becoming…
I’m nervous, of course, but also have that sweet feeling of anticipation, of expectation, of wow, I’m almost there.

Which means I need to start promoting and advertising, etc. I hate that part. I want to hire someone to do that for me, but can’t afford, as yet, the thousands anyone who seems to be worth their salt is asking. I would like to write and write and write some more, not take time away to market. However, I do realize the necessity of it and so will bow with good grace, I hope, to the inevitable. Does anyone else despise the promotion side of writing?
Hope your month has passed favorably since the last IWSG update!

  1. I think it's fair to say that almost everyone hates the promotion side. I've just done the indie publishing thing with my novel The Glass, so I know where you are with this. Why can't everyone just know about our books as soon as they come out, without us having to do a lot of stuff that distracts from actual writing?

  2. Congratulations on your milestone!! How exciting. And I feel the same way about promotion. Try not to think about it yet and enjoy your accomplishment! :)

  3. Congratulations, Lisa!!
Marketing isn't the fun part, but I've managed to make it happen. Start planning now. There are a lot of good links at the IWSG site under Marketing. Do enough to get yourself out there while allowing time to continue writing. That really is the secret!

  4. Hi Lisa .. my Ma used to live near that milestone ... and I'd have seen it everytime I was in the Penwith Cornwall .. many many times in my decades of life! Makes me homesick!

Good luck with the marketing .. from what I can see it is the most difficult thing to do .. but starting is the best way to go .. cheers and all the best - Hilary

  5. Hi Lisa .. let me know about St Alfege and your saint's handover to the Vikings .. when you find your book, and get a chance to check it out.

I bought a book on St Alfege by a professor of Classics at Cambridge .. she now teaches Latin, Greek and Philosophy at a well known girls' school in Dulwich - not far from Greenwich. Somewhat over my head ... but I may well scan through the book ... just because I pick up interesting snippets of information ...

Cheers and thanks for coming by - Hilary

  6. Congratulations on your book! Sounds like you are getting close. I'm not there yet, hope I will be someday, but the idea of promoting my book fills me with dread.

  7. Howdy. Sounds like you are at an exciting time in the whole process. Its not easy, but if it was, anyone could do it. :) Best of luck. You could promo on my blog whenever you like.

  8. Hi Lisa - I went up to Durham in the north east of England last summer to see the Exhibition on the Lindisfarne Gospels - which Chronicles the life of St Cuthbert - I have yet to write about his actual journey ... what to leave in and what to leave out ..

I did do two posts on Durham .. with two others on museums in London ... this is the first:
http://positiveletters.blogspot.co.uk/2013/08/time-travel-anyone-zoology-ancient.html I encompassed a lot on that very short trip ...

So I will combine a St Alfege and St Cuthbert post sometime after the A-Z ... thanks for letting me know it was St Cuthbert you'd read about ...

    Cheers Hilary

  9. Hi Lisa. The highs and lows of writing, eh? So exciting to have reached this place. I hope your readers love your book and you get it printed soon. I have just sent my romance off to a manuscript assessor today. Here's hoping!

Looking forward to seeing you at WEP soon!

I sense very good things for your finished craft. Hearty congrats are in order. You will be just fine with the marketing angle. As you know, you have plenty of contacts and plenty of good people cheering you on. And of course, a certain famous dog.

  15. Yep, the marketing can be the unfun part of writing, especially when we are brimming with new ideas. Congrats with your progress. Hopefully your 'almost excited' can turn into 'fully excited'.
