A to Z Blogging Challenge - Cassadaga "Psychic Center of the World"

http://www.a-to-zchallenge.com/

For those of you who love a good mystery, ghost story, or have ever had your palm read, Cassadaga, Florida, "The Psychic Center of the World,” is a place you must explore. I went there once when I was a teenager, and that time didn’t see what all the fuss was about. But since then I’ve learned that Cassadaga, now known as a spiritual destination, was founded by George P. Colby from New York, and that he was “guided” to the land that is present day Cassadaga to found the Cassadaga Spiritualist Camp, which is now a U.S. Historic District. It is a regular little sleepy town, with a twist!
This story starts in 1875

The "Camp" has beautiful grounds

The Sunflower holds special meaning...
The name "Cassadaga" comes from a Seneca Indian word meaning “Water beneath the rocks.”

Take your pick!

Spirit Lake

The Cassadaga Hotel houses a ghost!
The majority of inhabitants are mediums or psychics, and the hotel even has a ghost named Arthur. There is a walking tour service, Daniel’s Orb Tour (386-228-2880), through the town.
The principles of spirituality that are taught by the people at Cassadaga state, "Spiritualism has no dogma or creed, just a simple set of nine principles to help guide our lives". According to the teachings of Spiritualism, it is the "Science, philosophy, and religion based upon the principle of continuous life."

“As the sunflower turns its face to the light of the sun,
so Spiritualism turns the face of humanity to the light of truth.”

  3. Hi Lisa - I'd like to see it .. but I'd be wary ... an interested spectator - sounds somewhat spooky .. but fascinating to be told about .. and I like the Seneca word - 'water under the rocks' ... something to remember when I visit .. cheers Hilary

  4. Sounds a bit like the equivalent of a place like Tintagel down in Cornwall - that has lots of spiritualist, wicca and new age events and shops (as well as a lot of things about King Arthur, which is what makes it famous :)). Cassadaga sounds like an interesting place to visit.

  5. I visited Sedona, Arizona which is supposed to be THE spiritual spot too with spiritual vortexes swirling throughout. However, I never felt it. Maybe I just wasn't in tune. On a friend's 50th birthday, we had our tarot cards read just for fun. Two of us got good reports; the birthday girl got a negative report. That put the ol' damper on the rest of the celebration. Lesson: don't ask if you don't want to know.

  13. I've had a couple of psychic readings, but they only seem to be accurate on the periphery - ie. I was told a not-close relative would die, and they did. But the things they tell me about my own life don't seem to happen.

  22. Hi Lisa,

Thanks for stopping by our blog earlier. I am always fascinated by ghost stories and things like that. Someone did the A-Z challenge last year about haunted houses around the world and I really enjoyed it. I loved the Ghost Crossing sign.
