A to Z Blogging Challenge - St. Augustine

http://www.a-to-zchallenge.com/

Castillo de San Marcos
I have been visiting St. Aug all of my life and I even lived there for a few years in my early 20s, and would do so again if I could. So if you like sailing, forts, or sight-seeing of ALL kinds, history, good eating, beaches, horse drawn carriage rides, walking, bike riding, festivals, wineries, distilleries, more good food, beautiful B &B’s, draw breath… then St. Augustine is the place you want to be.

Carriage rides run all day. Bridge of Lions in the back...
Okay, I’m going to have to rein myself in here a bit because this town is one of my top, perhaps THE top town in my opinion in North Florida. St. Augustine is the oldest “city” in the nation. But that isn’t its only claim to fun. I can’t even begin to list all the things there are to do, or see, or eat. There are just toooo many. So I will give you links and I will give you visuals. And, I hope you will one day (if you haven’t already) have a chance to spend some time here.

The bay front at night.

This statue is famous and has been stolen numerous times!

The Mill Top, a favorite local hangout-turned-tourist haven.

Pirates have more fun!
Restaurants I recommend:
For its Gelato...Cafe Del Hidalgo

For Greek/American/Italian food... Georgie's Diner

A to Z Blogging Challenge - Alligator Farm and IWSG Wednesday

http://www.a-to-zchallenge.com/
http://alexjcavanaugh.blogspot.com/p/the-insecure-writers-support-group.html

Double Shot Wednesday! What a great way to start April, and I "ain't" foolin'...

First I have to say that I'm not feeling the blues today. If you are reading this, it means I've done my work and posted as I should, and I'm doing a happy dance, excited that April is here. So, though I have my insecurities, as usual, I'm not indulging them today. Instead, I'm writing about North Florida, my birth state, for the A to Z Challenge, and I'm going to share some of the reasons why this state will always, no matter where I live, have a special place in my heart.

First, how can I write about Florida and not write about alligators? Impossible. They are everywhere, north and south, and such a part of FL that they should probably be on the state flag. There are quite a few alligator farms/tourist attractions all over the state, but the one I've frequented the most is one with a long history since its founding in 1893.

Albino alligator in 2005. He's much bigger now!
The St. Augustine Alligator Farm is one of St. Aug's big attractions and is well worth a visit, especially if you have children. They absolutely love it there. The boardwalks make it very accessible and easy to see tons of 'gators, not to mention the zip lines over the 'gator pits! Offered are wildlife shows, exotic animals like birds of Africa, Komodo dragons, crocodiles (yes they are different!), pythons, lemurs, and fossil exhibits, native reptiles and amphibians. It is a huge park.

The experience of the Farm is worth a trip if you're in the vicinity so take some time and check it out.

Tortoises, who are also bigger now than in this photo!
