IWSG Wednesday July 2, 2014

http://www.insecurewriterssupportgroup.com/p/iwsg-sign-up.html
Today is my husband and my thirty-first anniversary! We are going to St. Augustine, Florida for a few days to celebrate. We LOVE it there!

Pondering the subject of this month’s post to the IWSG my fingers gently rub the new scar I now sport upon the side of my abdomen and realize I’m a lucky woman.  Appendicitis is nothing to sneeze at, literally (it hurts like you know what!), and I feel blessed to have come out of it with only healing to do and a scar. When I woke up after the surgery I thought instantly of the Madeline books I used to read as a kid. The very first one is about little Madeline having to go to the hospital to get her appendix out, and how the other girls from her school, when they come to visit her, are so envious! Ha. I wouldn’t be, having now gone through it.
So I could whine about how much writing I’m NOT getting done right now. But I won’t. I will, instead, be grateful for the new challenges I face, because I will heal and be able to work out and have energy again soon. Though I still tire easily, today marks the fifth week since my surgery, which leaves one week left before I can begin in earnest to get back on top of things and WRITE.
I am, truly glad to have time to catch up on life in a slow way, cooking, gardening, talking with family, snuggling our pup and, of course, adoring my husband who has taken great care of me.  So this month my advice is, smile. Challenges in life are here to stay. Trust in a smile to help you march on.

  1. Hello, Lisa. Happy Anniversary! Enjoy your break.
Had my appendix out when I was a teen. Not as bad as some ops, I'm sure. Haven't read the Madeline books. D

  6. Happy Anniversary - that's wonderful! I hope you and your husband have a nice celebration!

Appendicitis sounds awful and I'm glad you are recovering! It's nothing to sneeze at, really. I've not hard it, but I went into the doctor two summers ago with suspected appendicitis and found out I had a kidney stone. Both are awful. Relax and get better!

I love your idea of smiling and moving on!

  7. What a heartwarming and inspiring post, Lisa! I've had medical challenges that have left me limp as an overcooked egg noodle, and I have worked my way back to health and strength too many times. But it is so worth the fight! Like you, I've have a rock of a husband who has never wavered in his support of me in anything. I make a point of smiling at myself in the mirror every morning! Keep marching! It is worth it.

  10. St Augustine, eh? You must not like beaches. ;) (We can't handle the shells.) Congrats on the anniversary, and take it easy. I've been through two c-sections, and the recovery is garbage, but the easier you are on yourself, the quicker you'll be back to life. Take care!

  12. Hi Lisa - I hope now it's 3 weeks later that you are distinctly feeling better - but anaesthetics knock it out of you ... and healing takes its time - it's worth taking it slowly ... this is big Mrs Hmb speaking who hasn't had an op for donkeys years .. so who knows squiddly-squat!

Hope you both had the most lovely break ... thirty one years - many congratulations ... and see you when you're ready .. cheers Hilary
